CALL or CLICK Before You Dig!

April was Dig Safe Month in Canada, but now that the weather is getting warmer and many people will be starting new projects, it is a good time to remind people to CALL or CLICK before you dig.

Whether you are putting in a fence, building a new deck, putting in a garden, or undertaking a large construction job it is important that you contact Alberta One Call and wait for all underground utilities in your dig area to be located before you begin.

Until a locate has been completed, you have no way of knowing if there is something buried under the ground or where exactly it is.  You could end up damaging a power line or natural gas line, cutting off your internet services, or damaging a water line. If you hit a natural gas line, you could cause a dangerous and costly explosion. If you hit an electrical or communications line, you could impact your neighbours or cause losses to nearby businesses. These mistakes are incredibly easy to avoid thanks to the Alberta One Call system.

All you have to do is visit and put in a locate request. Wait a few days for the locates to be comepleted, and then you can begin digging away from the marked utilities.
